Best address is 900 Bernal Road, San Jose, CA 95120 – head to guard station at top of hill and give your name as visitor. Host must register all visitors name, title, organization, and citizenship with IBM Security in advance of any visit. Visitor badges can be picked up at the reception desk, look for flagpole in front for visitor reception entrance. Best travel times: 30 minutes from San Jose Airport, 50 minutes from Stanford, 70 minutes from San Francisco Airport, 90 minutes from Berkeley – all depending on traffic conditions, double if heavy traffic.
Arriving by Uber – that is OK, and be aware:
(if your Uber driver needs it, we can also add his/her name to security list – since they have to buzz in at a guard gate – that seems to intimidate some Uber drivers who don’t understand we are friendly group of researchers – and not mad scientists of Area 51 – however, we do require citizenship info for all visitors, so that spooks some Uber drivers who do not want to give that information to their riders to get through the gate – worst case – visitors walk 10 minutes from gate to building on top of a mountainside – or they contact me, and I come get them – sorry this is so complex but I do want to alert visitors in advance to this – since it happens sometimes…
That said – I also sometimes visit the Duke at 5pm in Sunnyvale – see http://theduke.com/ – right beside Apple’s new headquarters in Cupertino.)
